I'm going to the midwest again. Gonna drive my car halfway across the country and back. Mandy and I are going to Bloomington, IN on Thursday evening for an Over the Rhine concert.
The guest list:

- Friday: Matt, Mandy, Janice, Todd, Courtney
- Saturday: Matt, Mandy, Janice, Todd, Courtney, Becky, Chelsea, Julie (Mission year team)
- Sunday: Matt, Todd, Janice, Courtney, Mandy, Adam
- Monday: Kyle, Becky, Andy
Skip ahead in time… So right now, I'm in Michigan, in my parents' home. My dad drives the same car that I do. It's so sad. Anyway, the concert in Bloomington was pretty good. HEM was full of good musicians, but was a bit busy. But sad music is good. Over the Rhine was slow starting, but they picked it up during the later half. They played a few new songs,
I'm On A Roll,
Entertaining Thoughts, and
I don't want to waste your time (with music you don't need). The encore, I thought, was the best part.
The Seahorse and
When I Go. I really like that song. It's soulful and they get really into playing it. Rick Plant was in top form, digging into that solo of his. Devon's drums were really live sounding. His cymbals were crisp and flashy and the kick drum blew your hair back. Toms really sounded nice too, good transients and a well-defined tone.
Strange thing happened there… While we were sitting down, waiting for the start of the show, we saw Janet Bellisari and some IU people. Probably not as interesting as I thought it was, but unexpected, because I don't think of these things.
After the concert I stuck around for a little and talked to the band a little. I met Devon, he was really nice. I found out that he's going to be at the south park music festival in south park, CO. Funny, because at the Half-Handed Cloud show, we met the promoter and head organizer or whatever his face was. He was the guy that went to purdue, Matt. So we may go to that.
When that was all settled, we all had to drive to Janice's for the night. It was raining, and before we got out of bloomington, I had already dropped a bottle of iced tea out the window, which broke and spilled all out onto the road, turned around 3-4 times because of matt's cell phone, and gotten separated from one another a couple times. But it all worked out, and after a lot of winding Indiana roads with toads sitting in the middle of the lanes we got to Janice's at around 3:30.
It was all business the rest of that night, brushed the teeth hastily and slept where one fell.
The next morning Mandy and I went to Target to get a wedding present for Becky and Jeff, and also an air mattress for Janice. I really wanted to get Janice the air mattress because whenever I stay there, someone (usually Todd) sleeps on the floor.
When we returned to Janice's, nobody was in the apartment. Todd and Matt had left to do whatever, and Janice was still at work. Mandy had to go hang out with her friends soon, and her stuff was in the apartment. Stink. Both Todd and Matt didn't have their cell phones on them, so we waited until they got back. Eventually Mandy got her stuff and took off for Milford, and the rest of us bummed around the apartment. Janice made us watch Aeon Flux, which was a bit off-the wall bizarre. One character looked like he was wearing a carrot suit, without the leafy green top half. Todd and I also dropped a mini glass fishbowl and embedded plastic fish in Janice's aquarium, because it's nice to have pets, and we thought the fish might want a pet fish. Funny it was indeed.
Courtney arrived around then, and we talked for a while, then went to Jungle Jim's Grocery Store. What a strange place. We watched a little of the movie they had playing… Great tunes. I don't really remember what else we did… We threw a frisbee around a little while Janice took a nap, right near a drained retention pond. Actually, one of us was usually in the pond, stepping carefully and missing most of the throws. We included Courtney in this later, in a much smaller, much less dangerous square. Dinner. Dinner was beef noodle soup, taiwanese style. mmm mmm. I had brought a bottle of Shiraz, and we cracked that open. Apparently no one likes wine. After dinner we were going to try to go to a baseball game, but we found out it wasn't happening at home. So we went to a bar that had some live bluegrass band and talked for a while.
This narration is getting boring… I'll try to highlight the good parts.
On Saturday Mandy and I went to the wedding, which was nice. It was a bit strange not knowing anybody there besides four people. I really don't have much to say about it, other than they had a lot of guests. The groom was pretty nervous, and couldn't stand still; he had to sway the whole time.
While we were at the wedding, the other kids went kayaking. I cannot comment.
Back at Janice's we cleaned up for bible study. We met some new people there… After that, we made pork and chive dumplings. The boys went out and threw disc, while the women (including me) cooked. They were real good. Another delicious meal from Janice.
Sunday Courtney left for Fort Wayne, Mandy went to church with people in Milford, and the rest of us went to church with Janice.
I don't feel like writing more… I'm going to bed. I will pick this boring narrative up later.
