I just broke into my own apartment. I went out to return some movies, and when I closed the door, I realized that I had not my keys. Great. So, I just went to return the movies, and to think about how to get into my apartment. First thought that went through my mind was "hey, there's a window you can get through, but it's locked." Crap, but it's my only shot.
So at my apartment, I surveyed the window. At arm's reach, a bit tall, but head-height from the "porch". First item of business: remove the screen from the window. Easy. Stick your key (car key) in there, and pull. With that barrier removed, I decided that I could open the window somehow. I first thought about using my key to move the little lock toggle. Good idea, but it really didn't work too well, as the key was too thick. I needed something thin and stiff, like a credit card. Mastercard, what can't you do?
With the toggle in the right position, it was just a matter of pushing the window open, climbing up to the sill, and jumping through. So I was in. Victory was mine! I was the most brilliant of cat-burgulars, the most crafty of all.
Then I realized that I could have just used the credit card to open the door.
